Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Varoam.
Is Varoam free?
Yes, Varoam is free to use. You can create up to 3 trip projects, use the AI assistant, export to PDF and compare routes — all for free. The Pro plan (€6/month or €49/year) unlocks unlimited projects and additional features.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can start planning immediately without signing up. Your data is saved locally in your browser. Create an account only if you want cloud sync across devices.
What is a decision tree in trip planning?
Instead of planning one linear itinerary, Varoam lets you create branches — Route A (fly direct) vs Route B (train via city) vs Route C (stopover). You compare all options side by side by price, duration and smart score.
How does the Smart Score work?
The Smart Score combines price efficiency, travel fatigue (overnight journeys, tight connections), number of stops and timing quality into a single composite score. Higher is better.
Can I collaborate with others on a trip?
Yes. Share the project link with collaborators. When someone saves a change, all viewers see a real-time notification. For deeper collaboration, the Pro plan includes live editing indicators.
How do the affiliate links work?
When you click 'Book this branch' or any booking link, Varoam may earn a small commission from the partner (Kiwi.com, Booking.com, GetYourGuide). This never affects the price you pay.
What formats can I export?
PDF, Markdown (.md), JSON (for re-importing), Google Maps URL, and iCalendar (.ics) to add trip steps to your calendar.
Can I import trips from other apps?
Yes. Varoam supports importing from CSV (generic format), TripIt JSON exports, and of course its own JSON format. Go to File menu → Import.
How do flight price alerts work?
Click the bell icon on any route in the Compare panel, enter your email and a maximum price. Varoam checks prices daily and emails you when a flight on that route drops below your threshold.
Is my trip data private?
By default, all your trips are private. You can optionally make a trip public (shareable link) or list it in the community library. See our Privacy Policy for details.
